Product Overview
Uses
It is used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus. This combination therapy is used to help lower blood sugar levels in individuals who have not achieved adequate glycemic control with diet, exercise, and metformin monotherapy or for those already on linagliptin and metformin as separate tablets.
Side Effect
Common side effects may include headache, gastrointestinal discomfort, and upper respiratory tract infection. Serious side effects are rare but may include lactic acidosis (a rare but potentially life-threatening condition associated with metformin use). If you experience any concerning side effects, seek medical attention promptly.
How to use
LINAMET 850 tablets are taken orally, once or twice daily, with meals. Your healthcare provider will determine the appropriate dosing frequency based on your specific needs.
How It works
Linagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that increases the levels of incretin hormones, leading to enhanced insulin secretion and reduced glucagon secretion. Metformin works by reducing hepatic glucose production and improving insulin sensitivity in muscle cells, leading to decreased glucose release by the liver and increased glucose uptake by muscle cells.
What if you forget to take?
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is close to the time of your next scheduled dose. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one.
Safety Advice for Linamet 850mg
ALCOHOL
It's generally best to avoid excessive alcohol consumption when taking diabetes medications, including LINAMET 850mg tablets, as it can affect blood sugar levels.
HYPOGLYCEMIA
When used alone, Linagliptin is associated with a low risk of hypoglycemia. However, when taken in combination with other medications that can cause hypoglycemia (such as insulin or sulfonylureas), the risk of low blood sugar may increase.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I stop taking LINAMET 850mg tablets if my blood sugar levels improve?
